App Friday’s Back-to-School Twitter Party

Attention parents and teachers: Join us for a Twitter chat August 7, 2015 to chat about the best family-friendly educational apps to help kids get ready for back to school.

Summer learning loss, also known as “summer slide” is a serious problem for students –  especially for lower income students. It can be blamed for reading troubles in the 3rd grade and it can cause cumulative learning loss across the years –  leading to problems in high school, increased dropout rates, and a greater overall achievement gap.

But summers are also busy and fun, and if you are lucky, your summer includes a vacation or two. So what to do now if your summer is coming to an end and your kids haven’t kept up with the learning all summer? Or perhaps your school has already started back and you find that some students are having particular difficulty in new areas regardless of how they spent their summer. We’re here to help with the back-to-school transition!

On Friday August 7, we invite teachers and parents to join the folks from App Friday, Drawp for School, and Moms With Apps for the App Friday Back-to-School Twitter Party where we’ll be chatting about some great apps that can help kids refresh their learning. Educational app developers will also be on hand to answer questions. From multiplication apps to reading apps to specific science and STEM subjects, there are some great (and affordable) tools to help students catch up or get ahead with their learning. And best of all, most of these apps are fun as well –  motivating students to keep going when the learning gets serious.

To join the 1-hour chat, follow @AppsEdTech and the #AppFriday Hashtag on August 7 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time/1 p.m. Eastern Time. During the chat everyone is invited to ask and tell about their favorite educational apps for math, reading, creativity, science, writing and more.

Also, we’ll be giving away two $50 Visa Gift Cards –  great for back-to-school supplies (digital or analog) for teachers, students, or parents.
